Over my career I have built up many years of experience in solving issues

surrounding young stock. This has been the fundament of this checkbook, together

with all of the scientific knowledge that is available. Checkbook Young Stock is a

very useful practical tool for dairy farmers. Everybody knows that young stock are

the future herd for milk production.

But I did not do this alone and would like to acknowledge some people that

contributed to this result.

I wish to express my gratitude to my colleague and good friend Ida Ringgaard at

Vestjysk Landboforening. Jens Møller Nielsen, CEO at Vestjysk Landboforening,

supported the project all the way, as he has done throughout my career with

Vestjysk Landboforening – that is very much appreciated.

My family, in particular my parents, have been behind me in every way throughout

my life and career, in universities in Denmark, the USA, and Iceland, acquiring the

background knowledge to make this book. My teacher in matters relating to young

stock for many years has been Sheila McQuirk; to her I owe great thanks.

Grete Hansen, my secretary: you were my rock throughout the creation of this

book. Line Lykkegaard Nøhr, who had to take over suddenly – thanks so much to

you too.

Last, but not least, my husband and colleague, Edwin Linde DVM, and my son

Marius – you understood and accepted that improving the quality of a calf’s life was

so important that Mum had to work away all those long days and nights.

Our agricultural industry today does a tremendous job of providing high-quality

food throughout the world while respecting animals’ well-being.

The clients we work with are engaged and contribute to many people’s jobs every

day. I am so thankful to every one of you out there for standing behind us and with

us through all the research and development projects undertaken throughout my

career – you were never in doubt that we were going the right way and I thank you

so much.

I know I have not mentioned here the names of everyone who took part in this –

but please be aware that you have my deepest respect and my gratitude for your

daily help and interest.
