Cow Signals was Roodbont's very first book for the professional market, published in 2003. However, the Cow Signals concept was introduced back in 2001 and is therefore now celebrating its 25th anniversary. Since then, more than 500,000 copies of the book have been sold worldwide in over 40 languages.
This book on cow-oriented management has become even more relevant today. Therefore, the publisher and author have updated the book. A new design makes it easier to read. It remains highly visual, because a picture is worth a thousand words.
Cows continuously send signals, providing a wealth of information about their health, well-being, nutrition, and production. The challenge for the farmer is to recognize these signals and act on them. Veterinarian and cow enthusiast Jan Hulsen, along with Joep Driessen, wrote Cow Signals based on his knowledge and extensive experience with farmers and their cows. He created this richly illustrated book as the ideal practical guide for learning to better observe the behavior, posture, and physical characteristics of groups and individual cows. It's important not to jump to conclusions, but to repeatedly ask three questions: What do I see? Why is this? What does it mean? With this knowledge, you can then take targeted measures to improve results.
